There are many valuable things in life, and friendship may be one of the most important. It is a feeling of love, caring and sharing to someone who understands and appreciates who you really are as a person. Luckily, I am surrounded by different people with different attitudes whom I can call as my friends, neither girl nor boy. However, can men and women be just friends?
According to "Friendship between man and woman is impossible.Period" an article from english.pravda.ru, the idea of friendship is simplified in a total different way by men and women. The female kind of relationship largely indicates a relationship based most on trust, whereas friendship between men is based on deeds. It was said to be impossible for a man and a woman to be just friends because of the sexual attraction between two opposite sex inside the friendly relationship.
As stated on english.pravda.ru, "Friendship can give us something that we cannot get from our family. We can talk about a variety of "forbidden topics" that often concerns our questionable behavior or improper actions, our innermost feelings and worries. A friendly relationship between men breeds respect, friendship between women can be admired yet friendship between a man and a woman is often viewed with suspicion, mistrust and even enmity."Can men and women be just friends? In my personal opinion, I actually agree that it is impossible to be just friends. At first, maybe yes but eventually either of the party might have this kind of sexual attraction feeling to the opposite sex. I also believe that trust is the best foundation of a good and strong friendship which is why man to man or woman to woman friendship is more dominant because it is easier to maintain with someone who can understand you well enough.
Another good article I've read was written by Donna Flagg entitled "3 Reasons Men and Women Can't Be Friends". She mentioned that the first reason men and women can't be friends is because of unrequited love. Also known as one-sided love of a woman to a man or vice versa. Second is the sexual attraction by only one person. At some point peers naturally play a role in our life. And the third reason is having a jealous girlfriend or boyfriend.
Donna said "If we happen to across someone with whom we enjoy talking, spending time, sharing interests, why would we write off the possibility of having that person in our lives just because genders differ? That's half the world of potentially interesting, loving, supportive people we'd be missing!"Regarding this issue, I somehow agree and disagree. Like I said, we have different meanings when we talk about friendship. But actually it's just a matter of maturity on how we really understand the real meaning and purpose of having this kind of friendship. As for me, friendship is how you treat one another as brothers or sisters. Sometimes, we can't help ourselves falling in love whether he is our friend or not. But some people rather choose to maintain their friendly relationship over their romantic feelings because they don't want to lose one another because of heartaches. It's also because they have deep friendly relationship which means they've gone through several hard times together. So again, can men and women be just friends? My answer is depending on people understands and separates between friendship and love.
